Hoy, día 30, desaparecen los dominios .yu de la extinta Yugoslavia.

.rs y .me son las extensiones a las que han tenido que migrar los usuarios de los dominios .yu. La transición ha durado dos años y ha sido monitorizada por la ICANN. RNIDS es el Registro serbio, que además se ha encargado de la transición de los dominios yugoslavos.

La ICANN utiliza el estándar ISO 3166-1, para determinar los ccTLDS. Tradicionalmente, cuando se retiraba un ccTLD, se ha dejado que su comunidad local de Internet decida cuál es la mejor manera de hacer la transición. Esto va en la línea del principio general que dice que cada país opera el ccTLD del modo en que cree que beneficia mejor a su comunidad de Internet. De este modo extensiones como la .zr (Zaire pasó a ser la República Democrática del Congo) se han retirado.

(Actualización vía Alfredo) El Consejo de la ICANN ha decidido conceder una moratoria de 6 meses a los dominios .yu.
